Oracle EDI UCC Pallet App

 In General

EDI Supply chain software with compliant labels and ASN

Here at Focused E-Commerce we are asked many times how Oracle creates a compliant UCC-128(GS1-128) Label for carton or pallet shipments.  This functionality is not part of Oracle applications.  Being compliant with your trading partner’s requirements can be confusing and technically challenging if you do not have the right partner and software.  Focused E-Commerce dedicated themselves to create an application called the Distribution Enablement Software or “DES” to meet this demand.

The EDI Oracle Pallet UCC-128(GS1-128) Label application is very user friendly and extremely intuitive.  How so?

  • We had the actual end users in the warehouse design the functionality so that it would save them time.
  • When the Focused E-Commerce’s design team began the initial phase of the architecture and the user interface, they spent an entire week with a shipping department to see how the process ‘really works’.
  • After this time intensive analysis, it became apparent that the shipping team has a very specific way of handling the high demand of not only shipping an exuberant amount of product, but the time constraints can be extremely stressful.

Practical vs. Reality, EDI supply chain software has to be user friendly and embraced by shipping team!

At this point it was realized that we not only needed but wanted the shipping team to weigh in on the design, timing of events and user interface.  We wanted the shipping team to be able to rely on the application, have it save them time and enable them to become much more efficient.  We believe that we achieved all these goals, the user interface is not only arranged by the order of time critical information, it is displayed with all the necessary updates to the status of the order.  The application is extremely intuitive, open and tightly integrated with Oracle.

This end to end solution is scalable and customizable.  Most importantly it is easy to use, and was embraced by the Warehouse Management Team!!

10 Easy steps on how  to print the EDI Oracle pallet UCC-128(GS1-128) or cartons UCC-128(GS1-128) labels and create the EDI Advance Ship Notice ‘ASN’?

  1. The distribution enablement system begins by printing the pick ticket.
  2. The order is picked and packed.
  3. The Oracle build pallet screen enables the picker to build the pallet by pointing to items on the screen and selecting the proper quantity.
  4. Once the Oracle pallet is built then the pack list is printed.
  5. At this time you have the ability to stage the shipment until the truck arrives.
  6. Prior to the carrier arriving, you can print the Oracle Compliant UCC-128(GS1-128) Pallet Label at which time it will print and be available to attach to the pallet.
  7. Once the UCC-128(GS1-128)  Pallet or Carton UCC-128(GS1-128 Labels are printed then you can print the Bill of Lading for this shipment.
  8. The “DES” also gives you the ability to master bill multiple orders on a shipment.
  9. This information is now stored and ready for use in the EDI compliant Advance Ship Notice, ‘ASN’ that you will send your trading partner.
  10. Once the shipper closes the order and ship completes, the Oracle Pallet Label Application will then create the trading partner compliant ‘ASN’.  This ASN will be compliant for either pallet labels or carton labels.  Once ASN has been created and sent a ship confirmation is sent to Oracle and the invoice is then created.  In addition this application has an interface to manage all trading partner specific requirements including unique carton label requirements or pallet label requirements.

    Hello Larry,

I know Oct from July when this was written is a long time to comment. But – we are beginning an Oracle ERP implementation. The areas I am currently in charge of is Order to Cash systems(O/E, billing, etc – typical) and EDI which we do mostly for our wholesale divisions – large customers AND now many independents through third party providers. Many if not all of our large customers require ASN’s and they all have UCC(GS1) 128 requirement labels which we currently do print and support. In the blog it says that ORacle ERP does NOT support this currently – not even 11g version?
